Those unable to attend the meeting in-person can join virtually via Zoom.
In July, the Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability received a petition from Live Free Illinois, requesting a special hearing to discuss their proposal to Mayor Brandon Johnson and the City Council for establishing the Office of Gun Violence Reduction.
CRS invites you to join the Commission at their monthly public meeting, followed by a special hearing where they will dive into important topics, learn more about the proposal from Live Free Illinois, and ask critical questions.
The Commission will provide an opportunity for public comment. Each person participating in public comment will have up to two minutes to speak. A total of twenty minutes will be dedicated to public comment. Anyone interested in speaking during the virtual public comment period must send a request to Community Commission staff by emailing CommunityCommission@cityofchicago.org. If the number of interested speakers would exceed the time dedicated to public comment, speakers will be selected by a random drawing.
Anyone may submit written public comment by delivering it to the public meeting or by emailing it to CommunityCommissionPublicComment@cityofchicago.org.
Per ordinance, Chicago residents can petition for the Commission to host a special hearing on a variety of public safety related topics, issues, or concerns. Petitions must be signed by at least 2,000 Chicago residents.
