We can’t wait for reform any longer. Fifty years ago, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. rallied marchers during the Chicago Freedom Movement with the "fierce urgency" of demanding change. Join us on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 18, to continue Dr. King’s legacy as we demand action from our elected officials to stop police brutality, end violence, enact fair tax reform, and increase job opportunities now!
CRS’ annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Faith in Action Assembly is Monday, January 18, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Congregational Church, 1613 W. Washington Blvd.
Join us for a powerful day of testimony, prayer, and action as we ask our city and state elected officials to make public commitments to support CRS’ Platform for Renewal. The assembly will culminate in a Cook County State’s Attorney Candidates Forum during which the candidates will be asked to make commitments on violence prevention, criminal justice reform, and police accountability.
In 1966, Dr. King addressed a large crowd at Soldier Field and said:
“We have also come here today to remind Chicago of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of God’s children. Now is the time to end the long and desolate night of slumism. Now is the time to have a confrontation between the forces resisting change and the forces demanding change. Now is the time to let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
