A New Day

Amanda Gorman eloquently spoke of the dawn of a new day as together we rise to rebuild this great nation[1]. Her words painted a vision of living in a world where all of us enjoy the same privileges and opportunities, regardless of race, religion or identity.

As we embark upon a new era with a new administration, we continue to fight for this vision, demanding that just and equitable systems be created. Instead of a police state that targets Black and Brown people and often perpetuates violence and trauma, let us create a system where our communities of color are free to live in peace and safety, with equitable access to jobs and housing.

With this vision in mind, we continue our work around police accountability at CRS, and we invite you to attend our next issue team meeting and become a part of the change. To achieve our vision, we are currently involved in several policing campaigns. Through our work with the Grassroots Alliance for Police Accountability (GAPA), we demand a civilian oversight board over the police, where people have a say over police policy. With our involvement in the implementation of the consent decree, CRS informs CPD policy to ensure that the community’s voice is heard. Finally, through our partnership with the Coalition for Police Contracts Accountability (CPCA), we demand that the Fraternal Order of Police contracts be changed to include our fourteen points. Learn more about our campaigns and get involved.
